The grip of the basketball- Pick the basketball with two hands. Grip the ball with your hands next to each other. Participants stand five yards apart and pass the basketball between one another.
Layer- Hold the basketball ball like in a ‘W’ shape with your hands. Some your fingers are on the top gripping the ball.

Take back of the basketball- The take back of the ball is important to generate power and force when releasing the ball.
Layer- Bring the ball back to your chest. Like a Pin Ball Machine pulling back

The Stance/footwork when doing the chest pass is just before you throw the ball, you step into it. Pass to each other gradually getting further and further away.
Layer- Stand with foot in front of the other. As you release the ball step forward. The layer is swashing the tomato with your front foot.

The Release of the ball- when the ball is played back to your chest, you push the ball forward. Progress to moving around in a constrained are where the participant will receive the ball
Layer- Like you are opening an old door (push hard).
Go from bent to straight arms.

Warm up progression fits topic and group

Using layers made the practice more creative by using fun terms to explain the drill.

The participants were all challenged because they hadn’t learnt the serving before so the level would be at the same. The entire participant’s would be included.
All the participants were challenged but as they understood the layers so the level was quite easy but they all learnt something new.
It is really important that all the participants were challenged throughout the session otherwise the progressions would not be needed.

Because, we were teaching individually I gave quality instructions but not my voice clear although my voice wasn’t loud and I was clear.
Using demonstrates were really effective because they were new to the skill so they needed to see slow motion and full speed.
I used more of a democratic style because I needed to demonstrate the layers so they would have a better understand by seeing it.

The overall enthusiasm/motivation in the session was at a high quality I make that the session fun but also the participant had learnt something.

Reflecting

After planning and doing the basketball chest pass session I believe this following the correct criteria of a traditional style of coaching. Within this session I needed to give good feedback to the participant to make them better with the skill. By using both positive and negative feedback in coaching, this process within coaching can really affect sports performance.
According to BBC Bitesize (2014) “positive feedback focuses on what you did well and suggests how further improvements could be made. Giving negative feedback to someone is not useful as it fails to explain how improvement can take place.” So either if you are just participating in sport/ learning a new sport or if you are working at a high level within sport, positive and negative are used.
